Finance and Accounting Week

Category: Administration, Miller Moments

This year we are celebrating Finance and Accounting Appreciation Week on September 14th – 18th, 2020. It felt as though this year needed a little more celebration time packed into all the chaos.

We also celebrated our Payroll and Client Services teams.

Our Accounting Team

Our staff of Accountants are truly a blessing to our team. They are an integral part of helping our clients maintain healthy finances and provide accountability in anti-fraud measures. We appreciate all they bring to the table for our clients.

Check back here during the week for more updates. 🙂

From the Accountants desk…

  • Ask questions! Whether that is in regards to your financial statements or in the details of a transaction. Our team is here is provide guidance and clarity to help you succeed.
  • The Statement of Activities records only the activities for the current year. The balance sheet and Statement of Restricted/Designated Net Assets should be read along with the Statement of Activities to get the complete picture – loans, cash available, restricted funds, prior years’ incomes and losses available.
  • Budgets are simply guidelines to accomplish the church’s goals for the year, not requirements to be met. If goals change, an organization should expect variances from the budget.

New Post: Five Barriers to Overcome for Financial Accountability

  • Details matter! When detailed questions are asked before taking action, your Accountant can better help guide you to the best solution. Or can help determine which details are most important.
  • Loans are not income. When you secure a loan, for purchase or repair, the expense will still reduce your bottom line.
  • Any money, gift cards, benevolence, or payments on behalf of staff should be recorded as income on the employee’s W-2; per IRS guidelines. Churches and ministries are not exempt from this law.
  • Do the necessary work to understand your financial statements, processes, and general financial position. This helps both as fraud-prevention and as general decision making for your organization.
Financials are overlooked or disregarded often because they seem intimidating.
Miller Management can help bring clarity and understanding with our expert staff.
