Joy in January

If you’ve seen our Facebook posts during January, you know two things. One, we have some fun during that month. And two, it is a very busy month for our employees. Which makes the first point make more sense. This year we made a conscience effort to help our employees find the Joy in January.

No one turns down food for a way to be recognized, so we usually do a good job of incorporating snacks, treats, and meals as part of our stress relieving festivities. Each year looks a little different with our food and activity choices; here is a look at a previous year. But this year included devotionals and coloring spaces as our new events.

Stressful Season

As our clients know, there are extra reports and fililngs, extra checks and depsosits, extra budget information and bonus payrolls to process. So the weekly work looks a little EXTRA during year-end season.

In our wrap-up meeting for this year, we had our team-leads brag on each department. Each department is impacted and goes above and beyond during this season each year. Our founder liked to say that each year was a record number of client growth, and each year we have the best team for the work necessary. And we couldn’t agree more, based on the stats our team shared in this meeting.

Spiritual Season

Another new thing this year is we started a weekly prayer session that is here to stay. What started as a time to pray for our founder during his health issues, turned into something more. A time to pray for each other, our clients, our church, the nation, and whatever else is on our minds that week. We reviewed different ways to approach a time of prayer; as individuals, as small groups, and as larger groups. All under the direction of a local pastor friend.

As we continue this tradition, it will evolve even more, I’m sure. But the heart behind, to lift us those we work with and those dear to our hearts, will continue to remain. And as our pastor friend likes to say, when you are recounting all that you have to be thankful for, it helps keep your attitude in check.

Spirit Weeks

It’s not all spiritual and structured, however. We do incorporate some silly. This year that included our normal spirit week for our January festivities, but we added a second week when the Chiefs were on their way to a second superbowl victory. Which, yes, wasn’t technically in January; but we are going to allow it. Here are a few fun shots of those weeks.

Those were some of the highlights of how we looked for the Joy in January during a busy season at Miller Management. As my pastor likes to say, the best remedy for any situation is to “Keep your eyes on Jesus.” And with every chance we got, we did just that. And ya know what, it was the best year-end yet!
