Vision & Mission

Category: Administration

Posted by

The starting of another year always brings us back to reflection and goal setting. And usually vision casting for church leaders. That’s why our January podcast episodes are timed so perfectly.

Our top three takeaways from this five-week series were these:

  1. Know your why
  2. Tell the stories
  3. Get the right people on board

Know the why

Your mission needs to be clear, concise, and something that everyone on your team and in your congregation can get behind. If you don’t have buy-in from your core statement, you will not go far. But if you do have buy-in, every decision can be centered around that mission, and as long as you are doing that, you will have a better chance when you present a change.

Tell the stories

Another important factor is to point out when your mission is happening. When you see something or someone aligning with the mission and a great outcome occurs, make sure you point that out. Not every one will see, and even those that see, might not make the connection back to the mission.

Get the right people on board

Lastly, once the mission is set, and there is a new idea proposed, you may still need buy-in. Depending on church structure, the first place to go is the board. Once the decision has been approved there, you move on to the staff. After the staff, you need to find the most influential generation in your congregation. Once you make those stops, head to the pulpit on Sunday and cast the vision of the change – all while relating back to the mission.
