“Financial help for a new church” might have even been something you’ve Googled as a pastor or ministry leader. Usually, the shepherding of the flock piece isn’t what makes you shy away from a new opportunity – it’s the financial piece.

Don’t worry, you are not alone in that thinking. As long as there are passionate people wanting to “go where they are called,” there will be a need for accounting and payroll services. But two key questions sometimes stand in the way.

1. Where can I get funding for a new church?

2. And once I have money, how do I get financial help by properly recording that income?

Recording Income for My New Church

First, good for you for thinking about being good stewards of the money you know will be provided.

The second question is easy for us: when you need financial help, you call the experts! Miller Management’s value-added accounting services can provide a partnership where your administration leaves off.

We went in-depth on that topic in our Starting Accounting in Your Church Plant post. But some of the highlights include:

  • using a Modified Cash Basis to record your income,
  • utilizing accounting software, and
  • reporting all financial findings to your board.

We also suggest to have a streamlined and organized chart of accounts to track your income and expenses. This helps your leadership make more informed financial decisions.

Financial Help Funding for My New Church

For the first question, we enlisted some help. All American Grant Guide had a few ideas regarding federal grants for new churches. Whereas Mustard Seed Foundation provides grants to some church start-ups.

Church Development, Cass Commercial Bank, and Central Bank of the Midwest are all vendors we’ve used before regarding fundraising and loans.

One more note regarding funding before we go. If funding is something that is a vital issue for your ministry – we would encourage you to take that burden to God, and wait for his answer. On the Leadership and the Church podcast, there is a whole series entitled Balancing Faith and Stewardship.

In the first episode of the series, this specific topic is touched on. The subsequent episodes consist of real life examples of how that balance has played out in three different ministries.
