Ergonomics in the Workplace

Miller Management brought in an ergonomics specialist to talk to our staff about some simple ideas to improve our overall well-being, even at work.

We were impressed with how simply we can implement some of these strategies throughout our day and wanted to share some thoughts. We hope they can help you, as well.

Top Tips:

  • Get up and move. Regardless of how well you are standing at your desk or sitting ergonomically in any chair, it is not good if it is for extended periods of time in the same position.
  • Be aware of how your body feels during the day and adjust, donโ€™t just push through.
  • There are small muscles throughout the spine.  Not moving them can cause those muscles to atrophy affecting the curvature of the spine causing damage, poor posture and pain.
  • Slumping or other bad posture can cause bulging disks.
  • It is as important to do small movements during the day as it is to โ€œwork out.โ€  Being still for 23 hours and workout for 1 hour is better than being still 24 hours; but to maintain your health – move for short periods of time more often, allowing for proper blood flow and working of the small muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints regularly.
