Volunteer Day

First Miller Management Volunteer Day!

Last week, most of our Miller Management staff had the opportunity to volunteer at one of our client locations. It was a tangible way that our organization could give back to the community. While a majority of our staff volunteer in other capacities quite frequently, we wanted to spend the day as a staff in community together. We currently have people who are church treasurers, bible study facilitators, nursery workers, offering counters, worship team members, women’s ministry helpers, youth group leaders, and marketing team members. And that is just in their home churches!

Kansas City

The Kansas City office was able to help Kansas City Rescue Mission with cleaning the chapel chairs – where 150 guys per night sit and listen to a service before they are fed a free meal.

We cleaned mattresses, pillows, bed frames, and walls, as well as remade beds – for a majority of those same guys receiving a meal.

We also cleaned the surrounding sidewalks and parking lots of litter. KCRM has received several awards for their clean kitchen and facilities – and they also have great “street cred!” It was an honor getting to play a small role in keeping their facilities clean.

Before the volunteer day, we collected around 100 shirts to donate to this organization! Our eyes were opened up to how a simple shirt can empower someone to help get them back on their feet and to see the love of Christ in action.

If you are interested in learning more about the Kansas City Rescue Mission or how to get involved, visit their Who We Are page. You will see how their needs are met – largely through individual gifts! – and where their expenses are going – mostly to their services for clients. Those include things like: meals, beds, clothing, the C-COR program, and chaplain and medical visits.

Springfield

Our Springfield Office did their own projects and we wanted to highlight those as well. We appreciate all these ladies do for their community and we are blessed to get to play a small role in that.

Angie volunteers for a non-profit animal shelter doing their accounts payable, accounts receivable, and deposits. She says, “My office sits next to the dog yard so the environment is a bit louder than my MM office!” {And we are glad to hear that! :)}

Brenda was able to help with repainting and redecorating an old classroom at her church – to be used as a children’s class in the future. We think it turned out great! She also has plans to go back to cover bulletin boards used as dividers in the Fellowship Hall. What a trooper!

Going Forward

Our staff is grateful for our leaders implementing this volunteer day and we know there will be more of these in the future of Miller Management!

“I want to express a huge amount of appreciation to the 22 staff members who were able to join us for the Volunteer Day last week. It was such a huge blessing – both to KCRM and to Miller Management. It was a wonderful time to help a ministry that is doing God’s work, and at the same time get a vivid reminder of why our own work is important here… We are most certainly going to plan more Volunteer Days in the future…” – Beth Baum, HR Generalist
