Seek the Lord

Each month the MM staff gather for a time of worship and a message. We call them our monthly Chapel times, and we’ve been having them since 2017. We invite area pastors and worship leaders into our space and they speak truth into us to start our month off right. This year, we started sharing a little bit about them on our blog.

November’s guest showed us some lessons to be found in 1 Samuel 30. To seek encouragement and strength in the Lord. When David and his men came back to their camp, they found people missing and the city burned. (That just put my day in perspective.)

After having a good cry (who can blame him?) David sought the Lord. He was at a cross-roads of what to do, as some of us may find ourselves at a cross-road during this season. If that applies to you, here are five steps to follow the example David gave.

5 steps to strengthen yourself in the Lord today

When David strengthened himself in the Lord, he did so by:

  1. Turning to God instead of despair
  2. Remembering God’s past faithfulness
  3. Prayed & sought God’s guidance
  4. Worshipped & trusted God’s Character
  5. Acted in faith
Psalm 34:4-5 "I sought the Lord..."

So much of our jobs are a ministry to people, no matter what the actual task is. When life has you down – or year-end is getting to you – try one of the five things on the list above. When we act in faith, after we’ve prayed and listened to the Lord, you might be amazed by what comes out of it.

A note of encouragement

Our guest reminded us that it is our job to seek the Lord, to find strength in him. No one can do that for us. Not your neighbor, co-workers, spouse, friend, or even your pastor. You have to put in the work.

Next time you are at a cross-roads, or just feeling a little down, we hope you’ll look to this list as a starting point of reaching out to the one who can turn your mourning into dancing, your weeping into laughing, your stress into worship. Praying for you in this season.
