One Little Sentence

Each month the MM staff gather for a time of worship and a message. We call them our monthly Chapel times, and we’ve been having them since 2017. We invite area pastors and worship leaders into our space and they speak truth into us to start our month off right. This year, we started sharing a little bit about them on our blog.

John 3:16

Have you noticed the resurgence of those John 3:16 signs at football games recently? Or September Chapel speaker has and he mentioned how he’d rather we expanded a little – maybe on the back of the sign – so people would know what was happening with this verse. How many people would remember to look it up later, anyway?

It wouldn’t need to say too much. Just “God so loved the world…so you can have eternal life” would suffice.

But the deeper and truer crux of this verse, according to our speaker, is that God loves you. All the time. You are known by name. You can spend eternity with him. No alternative for those that know him back. There are no opt-in tasks, God’s already done the hard part.

But while God loves us all. All the time. That doesn’t require him to like us at every moment. Those whom have ever lived with someone else may understand that feeling.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

By not posting this earlier this month, my procrastination may once again have saved me. Because isn’t that the message we all need to hear right now? God so loved the world. He paid the ultimate price. So those that trust in Him can spend eternity with that savior.

As Christians, we actually believe that. We can have confident hope in that one little sentence, that really isn’t so little. So the next time you want to bring that “one little sentence” into a sporting game or event, hold it proud. It’s everything.

While the world still feels heavy, holding onto this hope can help us say, “Surely this will be a good day.” Lord, help my unbelief.
