Ministry Descriptions: Providing Clear Guidelines
As part of your Administrative Resource Center, Miller Management has provided many articles and templates for your use on our website. All forms are up to date with best HR, Accounting, and/or Payroll practices. Today we are highlighting the variety of ministry descriptions available.
Our staff have comprised templates on our website for your organization to modify. On the first page there is a list of headings and their descriptions. The subsequent pages include a thorough template to help you create the necessary information for your particular organization’s needs.
Areas of Coverage
Find all the descriptions on our Resources page, including:
- Administrative Professional
- Associate Pastor
- Director of Children’s Ministry
- Offering Counters
- Senior Pastor
- Youth Pastor
Similarly, you can also modify these forms for other job titles. These templates simply provide a jumping off point for your organization.
Importance of Job Descriptions
First, write the descriptions BEFORE any hiring takes place. Next, when writing the descriptions, be as thorough and clear as possible. Proper job descriptions make the hiring and releasing of staff much easier.
For example, performance reviews and “difficult conversations” are less complicated when clear guidelines have been set ahead of time. When communication is clear at the beginning, everyone wins.

Where to go next
In addition to providing clear job descriptions for employees, these should also be used for volunteer positions. Speaking of volunteers, later this year we will provide a snapshot of handling volunteers.
Miller Management provides Training + Consulting to improve day-to-day management skills necessary to improve the delivery of ministry.
