Hiring 101: Criteria Check
Miller Management has a department devoted to Training + Consulting. One of our courses is entitled “Hiring, Motivating, and Releasing Staff – Paid or Volunteer.” A key point we make in that course is the Final Assessment of the Candidate.
Today, we want to go over that section, specifically the Final Match Criteria Check. After all earthly due diligence has been done; there should be one final checklist that is scrutinized prior to making the offer.
The five “C’s” of proper matching.
Competence – Do they have the skills that are necessary to be effective in this position?
Character – Do they have the character to do their job with integrity over the long haul?
Chemistry – Do they have the chemistry with you and your team and organization to be an effective team player?
Commitment – Do they have a commitment to your mission, vision, and core values?
Calling – Are they called to serve with you and your organization?
Before hiring your next problem, filter the person through the above grid. They may be great people, they may be like-able and would do an OK job, but if they don’t possess the five “C’s,” you might want to keep looking.
Key point: We hire our own problems, so maybe we should rethink our process!
Keep the hiring conversation going.
