What Do You Delight In?

Another month, another MM Chapel time. For those who are new, you can start here with the why behind having these each month. For the rest of us, time to dive right into May chapel, with one of MM’s own.

What do you delight in? What do you want more of because it makes you happy? While you might be thinking of temporal things, our speaker encouraged us to think of our eternal delight in God, as things are only temporary.

Our lesson came from Psalm 1. Chapters one and two of Psalms are the intro to the rest of Psalms. They are the answer to the underlying question asked in Psalm 1: where is our hope found?

Verse two answers that our true delight is found in the law of the Lord. In the glory of God in creation, in his promises, and in his salvation. We are reminded of Joshua being told to “be strong and courageous.”

Or how our hearts are unsatisfied until they delight in you. Perhaps restless until they find their rest in you. How Jesus offers living water (John 4) and life abundant (John 10).

Verses three and four describe that the blessed man is nourished by God, he yields fruit in its season, and it’s always in bloom – despite the wind & heat. Verses five and six end with our judgement; either we are seen by our works, or Gods. Spoiler alert: we don’t want it to be ours. We can never measure up.

So where does our true delight come from?

Our choices are either life abundant or death. Hmm… seems like a no brainer to me. I think I’ll be delighting and meditating in his word. Like our speaker said: reading, reciting, & beholding how He transforms us – for the Kingdom of God. Thanks be to God.
